Dear Friends,
Chatswood High School and Chatswood Public School will be amalgamating from 2020. At this point the school hall and music studio are to be demolished with no current plans by the Department of Education to replace them with facilities required to support the growing extra curricular music program. There are currently 26 extra curricular ensembles in the High School alone, supporting the 300 plus students involved. What will these ensembles do in January 2020? Where will they rehearse each week? Where will they perform?
Please read the following information, sign the petition, write a comment to the Department of Education, and be sure to spread our concern to your friends.
We greatly appreciate your support for the future of the Music Program at Chatswood High School. So far we have received just over 3,260 signatures and counting. That is a great start. Please continue your support by sharing the petition (http://chng.it/nT6Dpd5L) with your family and friends.
For your information, the Department of Education has created a project website. Under the heading Community Notifications, there are links to the material provided at the information sessions including the Display Boards which show the proposed building layout (page 5).
The next section, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), addresses some of the concerns raised at the information night. Some of the answers are very vague while some concerning the Hall are quite specific (e.g. references to a non-fixed stage) and the Department of Education doesn’t seem to have grasped the importance of the music community concerns. Their plans are simply unlikely to suit the needs of the Music Program.
Therefore, in addition to signing the petition we encourage you to review the FAQs and send your own email to [email protected] with comments and questions about the information that has been provided on the project.
We thank you for your support
