The Senior Concert Band (43 students) toured to the South Coast from Monday September 18th - Wednesday September 20th. The band led workshops and presented concerts to four Primary Schools.
Here are some reports on the tour
I just wanted to thank you once again for a wonderful day at Mittagong Public School. Although our own school band is small in numbers, we are big in enthusiasm and passion for music and the students absolutely loved having the opportunity to play alongside Chatswood HS students. Some were a little overwhelmed at first but I know in the end they were really enjoying it all!
I had so many positive responses from both students and staff after today's concert about the high quality of performances. They especially liked being able to hear the individual instruments and then how they all mix together to create such wonderful music! The junior school were very sorry to have missed it. If only we had a bigger hall!
A special mention has to go to your students. I was so impressed with the way they conducted themselves during the workshop. They were such good mentors to our MPS band students both in their musicality and respect during the workshop. When your students needed to ask me a question, they were so well spoken and polite. It was a pleasure having them at our school today!
Thank you for visiting Mittagong and I wish you every success for the remainder of your tour. If you're touring again next year, please keep us in mind!
Kind regards,
Rebecca Michael
I am writing to extend my thanks to you and your colleagues and the wonderful band students from Chatswood High School for visiting Colo Vale Public School last Wednesday. All staff and students were excited to see Chatswood's band perform and were extremely impressed with the level of skill from all band members. It was wonderful to see our students from Colo Vale dancing in their seats as the band performed!
Thank you for facilitating a workshop for our band students who I know very much appreciated the experience.
Please pass along my thanks to Chatswood students who made a beautiful effort to include and put at ease our band students who were quite nervous to be working with older peers.
I hope you will consider visiting our school again.
Kind regards,
Genevieve Smith (Colo Vale Primary School)
On the 18th of September, Senior Concert Band went on tour to the South Coast for three days. It was truly an amazing experience. Being able to perform in front of hundreds of children was incredibly fun and seeing their eyes full of joy and wonder really lifted my spirits. We performed all of our current pieces we had rehearsed for the past term including Grease, Into the Joy of Spring, How to Train Your Dragon, Hot Latin and much more. It was very fun.
The place we stayed was called Big 4 East Beach Park. I loved the place so much. It had many facilities and the best would be the jumping pillow which I played on for hours. We were also accompanied by two teachers Miss Wagner and Mr Gulpers who made the trip even more enjoyable with us doing all sorts of strange things like the floss dance. The food made by the teachers were very nice like lasagne and burgers. It was a great time and spending it with friends was the best. I truly believe that this camping trip is my the biggest highlight in all of band. I wish to do it again.

From the 18th to the 20th of September, Senior Concert Band went on a tour to Mudgee. We visited 4 primary schools around the area and stayed for two nights at Big 4 East Beach Holiday Park. We spent time with friends, and had a blast on the jumping pillow! It was a memorable experience that was filled with music! It was a privilege to go on tour and share our music with others around us, in the band and at the schools. I truly enjoyed the experience and I am looking forward to more tours ahead!

In the last week of Term 3, Chatswood High’s Senior concert band toured the south coast for three days. The band stayed in Kiama and performed at Minnamura, Jamberoo, Mittagong and Colo Vale public school and enjoyed their time performing for primary school pupils, some schools even had a few band members who joined in with our rehearsals and performances. Over the course of the tour SCB greatly improved in their playing and learnt new pieces of music which the primary school band members had been learning. The band members thoroughly enjoyed the performances, rehearsals, free time and activities that Mr Staines, Ms Sexton, Mr Gulpers and Ms Wagner provided. The south tour is an unforgettable tour with the scenery of the ocean and memories that friends make outside of school. Senior concert band enjoyed the tour that Mr Staines organised and would love for future Senior Concert Bands to take part in the South Coast tour.
